LHU chairs thematic sessions at the 5th International Conference on Asian Local Studies in Penang, Malaysia

As part of the 5th International Conference on Asian Local Studies held in Penang, Malaysia, the delegation from LHU continued to affirm its academic role and position by chairing important thematic sessions at the conference.

On the afternoon of August 7, 2026, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh and Dr. Hoang Tien Dung, Head and Deputy Head of the Office of International Affairs, respectively, chaired two thematic sessions attended by professors and scholars from China, Malaysia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and ASEAN countries.

As session chairs, the two LHU leaders not only guided the sessions but also played an important role in academic coordination, ensuring the smooth progress and quality of the presentations. The presentations covered various areas of Asian local studies, including cultural heritage preservation, social development, language and cultural studies, and theoretical approaches in the context of globalization.

With their professional and flexible working style, together with their experience in international academic forums, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh and Dr. Hoang Tien Dung effectively coordinated the presentations, discussions, and academic exchanges among the speakers. They skillfully connected the presentations, creating an open academic atmosphere, while encouraging interaction among researchers from different cultural and academic backgrounds.

In particular, during the sessions, the chairs raised interdisciplinary discussion topics and encouraged scholars to explore issues such as the role of indigenous knowledge in sustainable development, heritage preservation amid urbanization, and the challenges of developing theories of Asian local studies.

Chairing thematic sessions at a major international academic forum once again demonstrates the professional expertise, international engagement, and academic organizational experience of LHU staff. This contribution also helps strengthen LHU’s image and reputation within the regional and international academic community.

This activity is a highlight of LHU’s participation in the conference. It is also part of the University’s activities leading up to its 30th anniversary (1997–2027), further reflecting its commitment to internationalization and sustainable development in the new period.
